Remedies is a deck of cards reflecting the challenges many face in accessing quality healthcare. For those who have experienced dismissal or disbelief in medical settings, turning to alternative medicine can feel like the only option. Each card features a pattern inspired by a plant historically used for healing, echoing the repetition and rituals I have experienced navigating healthcare.
As someone who has spent significant time in and out of medical care, I often feel caught in a cycle, constantly advocating for my health and wondering if the doctor I waited months to see will listen or dismiss my pain. Healthcare can feel like I game I cannot win, where hope is too often replaced by doubt and disbelief.
Remedies reflects that struggle and expresses a hope for a future where everyone is seen, heard, and believed by their doctors, and where advocating for basic care is no longer a fight.
Process Work
For each plant, I studied images in the wild and noted visual details that could be emphasized in the patterns. Each design needed to be unique, so I experimented with different arrangements and interpretations of the plants.
